The reason for the Thredbo Ski School is the reason for skiing in the first place, to have FUN. The Thredbo Ski School is recognised as one of the best. Every ski instructor has been trained and most have years of experience in other international resorts.

WHY LEARN AT THREDBO?

You learn quickly at Thredbo because it has purpose-built areas for new skiers, Friday Flat.
We designed and built the area to a gentle slope - just the right slope for new skiers. Not too steep, or you’ll go too fast. Not too flat or you won’t go at all. In fact it’s perfect. At most ski resorts, new skiers have to go uphill clinging to a lift called a T-bar. Not at Thredbo. We’ve installed a slow speed easy-on, easy-off quad chairlift for you. You can go uphill in comfort, sitting on a chair.

Ski School lessons not only improve your skiing or give you a positive start to your new sport but provide you with loads of fun and laughter. Thredbo instructors will ensure you get the most out of your ski holiday as they realise you only have so many skiing hours available to you, so they ensure you maximise every minute.

Thredbo Ski School offers packages to suit everyone from never ever skiers and snowboarders to the more adventurous mogul munchers and radical boarders. Whether you are here for a day, a week or two the ski school have lessons to suit your needs abilities and budget.

FOR NEW SKIERS

Thredbo has a purpose built beginners area called Friday Flat enabling first time skiers to advance to intermediate level without having to encounter a daunting T-bar. Like other resorts Friday Flat has an easy gradient of 12 degrees and it is acknowledged as the ideal learning slope. The `Easy Does It' chairlift accesses this area and is a low speed quad chair as the name suggests easy on and easy off.

FOR INTERMEDIATES

Thredbo provides the intermediate skier with a complete skiing experience - long, well groomed `Supertrails' let you ski endless kilometres, through alpine terrain on popular runs like Crackenback Supertrail, High Noon and Dream Run. The Merritts area has Thredbo's newest runs, with the opening of `The Cruiser' quad chair in 1994, it has unveiled a whole new area for skiers including four new tree-lined blue runs and two green runs. The `Skier Package' includes a 2 hour lesson each day plus access to all lifts and runs and it can be used any 5 days of 7. The Women's Programme or Breakthrough on Ski's are ideal to get the most out the great intermediate terrain.

FOR THE ADVANCED

Thredbo has the most vertical skiing with hot runs like Cannonball, Funnel Web and Michael's Mistake. Thredbo can offer more advanced ski terrain than any resort in Australia. Advanced skiers can join group Skier Package lessons or try any of the special programs like the Ski Like A Professional (SLAP) programme which enables the more proficient skier to rise to new heights in their skiing or for the experts - Power SLAP.

FOR THE CHILDREN

THREDBOLAND AND JUNIOR WORK SHOP

Family skiing holidays should be a delight - so let the Thredbo Ski School take out the hard work and try the specially designed children's ski facility called Thredboland. Children from as young as 3 years can join in on the great programmes at Thredboland and the older children 7-14 will love the skiing adventures of the Junior Workshop. The full day includes skiing/snowboarding tuition, lunch, drinks, snacks and use of all the Thredboland facilities. These programmes were designed in-house by Thredbo Ski Instructors and combine the fun of learning to ski with the beauty of the unique Australian alpine environment. Thredboland's special animal friends frequently drop in and help out during the day.

FOR NON SKIING CHILDREN

Thredbo Pre School operates daily for children aged 3-6 years.

Private child minding facilities for under 3 year olds are available in Thredbo Village.
