LOCATION:

Temple Basin is directly above Arthur's Pass on the main road between Christchurch and Greymouth. It is 150kms from Christchurch and 4kms from the Arthur's Pass Village and Park Headquarters. Access is by means of a walking track from State Highway 73 to the lodges. An aerial cableway takes all luggage and supplies to the field. The walk takes about 45 minutes in good conditions. The track climbs up through fascinating sub-alpine and alpine vegetation with panoramic views of the Pass and the surrounding mountains.

Visitors have the option of travelling from Christchurch to Arthur's Pass Village on the internationally acclaimed TransAlpine Railway, through the magnificent Waimakariri Gorge.

BUS:

Regular bus services run through Arthur's Pass between Christchurch and Greymouth every day.
From Christchurch the services are:

TRAIN:

The TransAlpine Express train from Christchurch to Arthur’s Pass departs daily at 9am. Phone 0800-802-802.
The Train service drops passengers at the Arthur's Pass Railway station in the village. This is 4kms from the start of the Temple Basin track.

SHUTTLE:

A local shuttle provides transport from the Village and Railway Station to the Temple Basin Car Park and Goods Lift. Phone Arthur's Pass Taxis on 03-318-9258.
Drivers note that this service enables you to leave your car in Arthur's Pass Village if you so prefer.

GOODS LIFT:

The Goods Lift will transport your gear up the mountain. There is no charge for this service. The Goods Lift terminal is about 400m along State Highway 73 west of the Temple Basin Carpark.
