When Rosco Came To Town

Rosco stopped by in Thredbo during his Anzac long weekend getaway. Sunday morning was crisp and cool with a heavy frost and the sky was clear and blue with just a light breeze.

The crowds were up. Not quite the Easter rush but with school hols and the long weekend there were many taking the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful conditions and get outside.

Rosco, like myself, was keen to get away from the crowds and so we went on a stroll so I could check out the newest addition to Thredbo.

Apart from the new bridge, featured in my last report, there is another new bridge. This one is in the resort and forms part of the yet incomplete super bike track that starts behind Eagles Nest and will eventually, via Merritts, link up with Bullocks Flat track.

A lot of work (convict labour?) has gone into the construction of this new path - providing easy access through the steep and thick undergrowth across Central Spur, where no foot access has ever been provided.

Unfortunately the new track is not intended as a "shared" track meaning it was good to check it out on foot before the bikes get access. With the views and different aspects that you only normally get to enjoy during the white months it is hoped that something will be offered to footers so that the same views can be enjoyed in the summer months.

Having finished the inspection on the northern side, Rosco continued on with his "mountain worship", as he likes to call it, heading to the southern side alone, as I was expired.

Will this become the new
Will this become the new "old standard" creek photo? I doubt it

But the view both ways from the bridge is a pleasant one

The 29th Thredbo Jazz Festival starts next Friday evening and with a huge list of artists it is sure to be bigger and better than ever. Bring warm clothing - it just might snow :-)

One more reason to visit Thredbo next weekend is that there is less than a week to go before Kosi chair closes for maintenance marking the end of the 2015-2016 mountain bike season - certainly the biggest yet.

Lest We Forget
