Not Quite The Indian Summer

After the first snows for 2013 temperatures remained low enough to force me to turn on my heating and light the occasional fire. However, yesterday (Saturday) turned out to be quite a beauty in the village - blue skies and warm temps. Up top a strong wind kept the wind chill low with wind burn causing more pain than sun burn.

Many people took advantage of the end of school holidays plus the extended Anzac long weekend to enjoy the beautiful weather in Thredbo. Weekend crowds resembled Easter crowds catching some operators out in preparing for the unexpected rush.

I'm told that the new High Noon bypass will be completed in time for winter and that a "covered" 3rd snow runner (magic carpet) will cross the creek above Friday Flat and provide a long and gentle run for skiers and boarders back along the widened Summer Road (see earlier report) and down the last section of High Noon that is now being bypassed for those actually skiing High Noon.

What's that you ask: "a new lift and new ski runs in Thredbo?" Yes. We will all have to spend a little more time around Friday Flat this year ;-)

Today has turned out to be a lot windier than yesterday with a bit of a gale blowing through the village :-(

Next weekend is the annual Thredbo Jazz Festival. Always a fun event for young and old, and often a chance to see some fresh snow falls so come prepared for sun and snow. There's still plenty of tickets available. Volunteers still wanted.

I'm hearing rumours of snow by the end of this week and again around May 15th. Only time will tell.

And farewell to Kate - the specialist coffee maker in Eagles Nest - who is moving to the really big smoke of Sydney. Thanks for all the great coffees. Sara assures me that Kate's replacement will also be a great barista.

Marion complained that I had dropped the link to my weather charts. Well, here it is http://www.recentsnow.com/go.asp?r=Thredbo Now bookmark it.
