Mid Week Magic

The new snows forecast in such abundance last week failed to eventuate except for a small fall yesterday. The wind has being providing the best conditions by drying out and shifting around the snow. The snowmakers have been busy in the absence of any significant natural snowfall. The crowds are down and not taking such a toll on busy tracked areas.

The skier/boarder cross course (built for last weeks interschool races) was expanded for further races earlier this week. On Monday the windblown had once again all but disappeared but by Tuesday morning the drifts were re-appearing with some nice turns up high and in the trees.

Wednesday turned out to be a special day for some. Tommy was back on skis for the first time since his crash and Marion also returned to the slopes for the first time since her crash. Tommy was wearing a knee brace whilst Marion was wearing a helmet. How long either remains is unknown.

Conditions this morning were totally controlled by the mizzle (misty drizzle). Despite the wind, cloud and sun, it was the mizzle that had frozen on impact with the snow and it was the mizzle that blurred the goggles, except at the top of Karels T-bar where the mizzle froze to the goggles obscuring all vision.

The mizzle has now lifted and the sun and wind are dominant once more.

There's nothing much in the forecast, with many cold fronts passing to the south of the Alps. If the current blocking high-pressure system gets on its bike and hurries away, we may see something nice late on the weekend. We are well overdue for a decent snowfall.

The Grump: Not so much a grump but a reflection have you seen all the Telstra stories on TV? Nothing much seems to have changed despite the departure of the CEO. Meanwhile my Firefox spell checker keeps wanting to correct "Telstra" to "Maelstrom" ;-)
