More of Those 4 Letter Words

In case you have been wondering what's been going on, I bring you a somewhat mixed report.

After Friday's wind and rain, the weekend brought-forth wonderful Spring weather - sunny warm days and soft snow. There were places where the snow was just a nice carvable consistency but mostly there was wet slush by the end of the day. Long days and long lunches were the order of the day.

Monday brought more of the same only hotter, windier and slushier. Unfortunately the bureau got it right and Monday night the rains began. By Tuesday morning some 45mm of rain and hail had fallen. The day was a shocker with very strong winds, some lifts closed, cloud sitting on the mountain and intermittent rain showers.

The rain came after a brown layer of dust had been deposited over the slopes by the nor-westerly winds so the slopes have taken on a rather strange hue.

Like yesterday, I didn't venture out onto the slopes and indeed I suspect I won't tomorrow either. It is sometimes nice to give the body a recharge.

There is some good news in that Thredbo has not yet decided to shut down snowmaking for the season but we need the right conditions to be able to make snow.
