Extreme Weather

Extreme weather indeed. Wind chills below –40C and winds up to 120kph. Already we have had more precipitation this July than all of July last year and the forecasters say much more is coming.

Am I becoming a fair-weather skier or is that school holidays bring out the worst in the weather and snow conditions?

Monday was apparently OK but I had to go to Canberra to get car from panel beaters.

Tuesday was boilerplate ice from top to bottom. I did one run, saw that ski patrol were going to have a busy day and decided that was enough for me. It rained Tuesday night and all of Wednesday in the village. I didn’t go out on Wednesday.

Thursday morning I had to go to Jindabyne for car rego inspection. The road was a little tricky on the way out but fine on my return at 11:00 am.

Kosi Express opened after lunch and I took advantage. Visibility was poor up high but OK near the trees. There were still powder stashes. The wind had packed much of the snow and the morning riders had cut up and repacked the piste. The wind drifts were very pleasant. The run out from True Blue around Tower 10 was much the same as after the dump on Wednesday last week.

It is still snowing and is forecast to do so for the next 3 days. When The Basin and Karels reopen (closed today due to poor vis) I am hoping to find some magic wind drifts.

Hopefully we will see Sponars T-bar open this weekend.

Take care on the roads.
