Top To Bottom

Friday was clear and sunny and the off piste, although wind packed in exposed areas, was still delightfully soft in protected tree areas like Golf Course. During the night cloud descended on top of the mountain and sat there until the decision was made to run the Toyota Top To Bottom race from behind Eagles Nest and not from the top of Karels due to lack of visibility.

The racecourse was wonderfully groomed packed powder. First course inspection was in the dark with mist-covered goggles. As it got lighter we could see the snowmaking whales that we had been inadvertently launching from. All 6 divisions were run without any incidents that I heard of.

The cloud burnt off and the remainder of the Saturday was very pleasant although the crowds were up somewhat. The Thredbo inter-club races kept many off all slopes but those leading to and from the Rossi racecourse.

Sunday the wind was up and cloud began moving in. The drifts were great. We found lovely soft conditions on Karels, Basin, Antons, Sponars, anywhere the wind was depositing up to boot deep dry powder. The wind continued to rise all day and by 3:00pm most lifts were shut due to the wind.

No photos today - too cold/windy.

The forecast looks good for snow tomorrow. In any case the wind drifts should be great as long as the air remains dry and cold.
