Easter 2005

Having been back in Thredbo for a full week there has been a certain amount of pressure applied to get me to do a report on Thredbo. Itís not that I havenít wanted to upload a report; Iíve just been unbelievably busy - more about that another time.

During my absence in February there was a significant dump of snow - enough to allow at least one Thredbo local to ski off Mt Kosciuszko. March was fairly mild and the Easter weekend pretty well perfect. Temperatures were just above zero and winds only slight - perfect weather for getting out and walking, mountain biking or just lazing in the sunlight.

There was a big crowd of people in the village. One sight that I have never seen before (and didnít get a photo of) was a lift line some 20 to 30 metres long at the top of the Kosciuszko Express on Saturday afternoon. Thatís right, a queue at the top of the lift. A queue of people waiting to download after a walk to Mt Kosi or like ourselves, after a walk up from the village via Dead Horse Gap.

No flies, no mozzies, no rain, no humidity, no wind - just sun and cool air. We still managed to raise a sweat but in a healthy way and the wine and pizza at the end of a 10km uphill walk was a fair reward.

The village should be pretty quiet till the Jazz Festival on the first weekend in May. Time to prepare before the hectic times of the oncoming winter season.

And a warning to those who like to ski and board to DHG. A lot of work has been done on the walking track with many metres of sharp stone edging placed along the lower section of the path. This will no doubt tear a lot of ptex from skis and boards during the winter months.
