Great Weather For The Close

The official snow season, having been extended by one week, is now over in Thredbo. The final weekend was supported by wonderful weather - clear blue skies with just enough breeze to keep us from getting hot in the spring sunshine. Some cloud blew over on Saturday afternoon but as the snow was generally too soft after midday this didn’t really matter.

Disappointingly Karels T-bar was not opened, leaving only the Basin T-bar for skiing and boarding. The locals made the most of it, along with the last of the school holidaymakers. On Sunday several locals dressed in fancy dress for their last turns of the season. This was complimented by the best grooming job done in the Basin for the entire week.

There is still a significant amount of snow on the main range but without any real overnight freezes for over a month, the melt has been extremely rapid this spring. Today it is warm and windy with a forecast of gale force winds tomorrow and Wednesday.

I shall continue reporting on Thredbo but on a reduced scale. I hope to get a report out every week. I haven’t packed my touring gear away and from the crowds on the main range on Sunday I expect there will continue to be quite a bit of activity around Thredbo for the next month. Stay tuned.
