True Spring Conditions

After a wet Tuesday we finally had an overnight freeze. This left the Basin (the only groomed run on the mountain) firm and fast - lots of fun for those who came up. There was actually a lift line on the Basin T-bar. Not quite as busy was Karels T-bar that was holding up well. There was even a thin layer of ice on the ponds beside the T-bar line.

Once the off–piste had begun to soften Sasha’s was the place to be. You could still get a good uninterrupted line from the top of Karels back to the Basin via Sasha’s Schuss. Just before midday Howie and I climbed Signature Hill. It was very apparent that the freeze was only a surface freeze as our footsteps sunk into the soft under base.

Wednesday’s wonderful weather was replaced by wind and rain on Thursday. Last night we had a thunderstorm accompanied by a heavy shower of hail. I awoke this morning to see what looked like a couple of centimetres of fresh snow in the village. Not sure whether it was residual hail or snow.
