All System Are 'GO'

After a reported 45cms on Friday night, Thredbo was definitely converted into a full winter snow resort.

Many trees collapsed under the weight of snow and strong winds. I believe the roads were quIte treacherous and claimed a few vehicles not taking proper precautions.

Skiing and boarding was brilliant with lots of untracked off piste to work out the early season legs and feet. We had top (of Snow Gums chair) to bottom skiing and boarding as well as Merritts and High Noon. Even the Cat Track was in prime condition. All quite hard to believe considering it was only June 19th.

A further 40cms on Saturday and Saturday night covered all tracks by Sunday morning. Although the winds picked up we did get a nice dose of sunshine. The slopes were generally wind packed but the pockets of wind blown were delightful all through the day. Personally I thought the snow was generally heavier today but still lots of fun and as Ski Patrol opened more of the mountain there was a stack of runs to choose from.

The Kosciuszko Express was eventually opened for skiing and boarding but shut again for a good part of the day due to high winds. Ski Patrol did a marvellous job to get so much of the mountain open in a very short space of time.

This weekend also saw the SnowyFest International Film Festival - a wonderful array of 39 short films shown over 3 x 2 hour sessions on Friday and Saturday. There were comedies, high dramas, 3 fantastic animations, including a long clay animation and even a camp musical. I loved it all as I’m sure did the rest of the audience.

Everything looks great for the start of school holidays with a good base all over the resort. Hopefully we will see the Basin, Karels and Antons T-bars opening this week while Sponars may require a little more filling in.
