OVERVIEW:Forget the awesome views, the dedicated kid's area and the facilities for a moment ... first and foremost Mt Hutt is about a great snow experience.
This is the ski area for anyone looking for consistently good snow - from absolute beginners to advanced powder hounds. If you're into skiing or boarding - and that's all you want to do, Mt Hutt is the place to do it.
The snow is deep and reliable throughout the season and its on the mountain longer than any other ski field in Australasia.Mt Hutt`s season runs from the end of May to the end of October every year... and the spring skiing is some of the best! Snowmaking starts in early May so even if winter is late, we're covered.
The views are outstanding! On the mountain you can see from the Canterbury plains to the Pacific Coast. From the top you look right into the mighty Southern Alps.
Methven is Mt Hutt's "home town"- and the place to stay if you're planning more than a day on the mountain. It's a relaxed, friendly country town, with everything you need to unwind after an awesome powder day. Mt Hutt is close to Christchurch (an hour and a half drive) - and that's where you're most likely to land if you're flying to the South Island. Mount Cook Line's ski schools won the 1997 NZ Tourism Award for our instructor training programme. That means Mount Cook Line instructors are the best in NZ ... and you're learning from them! It really goes off for boarders, Half-pipe, great powder mountain, wide open spaces for free~riding, and snowboarding events right through the season, including half pipe, boarder cross and big air comps, & the views are outstanding anywhere on the mountain, you can see from the Canterbury plains to the coast. From the top you'll look right into the mighty Southern Alps.
