STATS & MAP:Four tow ropes will lift you 680 vertical metres (2230ft) up the mountain giving access to a huge uncrowded ski area (500 hectares skiable area) on which you can ski your heart out without having to spend precious time waiting in lift queues.
Skid Row (Learners Tow) situated a few steps from the car park. This is for beginners young and old. A gentle slope to gain confidence on. It is also an excellent tow for the uninitiated to try out their nutcracker (i.e. the device used to attach to the rope for the upward pull). If help is needed just ask at the canteen. There is no charge for using this tow.
MEADOW TOWSuitable for both learner and intermediate skiers as the slope is both gentle and wide but with ample challenge for those who wish to improve their standard for the steeper slopes above.
Tasman Tow travels up the fields shirt front giving access to some steeper runs either side of the towline while a short traverse to the right will bring you to the Happy Valley which consistently has great snow conditions to compliment its splendid terrain.
Apex Tow, the jewel of the Fox Peak Ski Area, takes the lucky skier to the fields top station at 1850 metres (6080ft) and opens up one of the largest skiable areas from any lift in New Zealand. Off to the north lie the rolling slopes of the North basin, easily managed by skiers of all levels, while to the south is our best kept secret, the beautiful South basin. From the top station a number of steeper routes, which because they face away from the direct rays of the sun often retain consistent powder snow for long periods, will entice you to the base of the valley. Once there the full magnificence of this solitary mountain place will become apparent. It is a vast ski area with some great ski trails but most of all its awesome silent beauty will beckon you back again and again.
